The thick, dark green leaf of Norway Maple has two other notable traits; it has perhaps the widest leaf blade of the more common maples, and its petiole (not shown here) is flared at the base where it eventually leaves a large leaf scar on the stem at leaf abscission in Autumn. Also, the paired samaras of Norway Maple are widely divergent.
