Corylus maxima 'Purpurea' (var. purpurea)
Purple Giant Filbert

The purple foliage of Purple Giant Filbert fades to bronze then dark green as the Summer progresses. The filbert is enclosed by a large husk (involucre) that extends beyond the fruit like a paper sack. Fruit set is enhanced by other trees in close proximity, as this early-blooming shrub is wind-pollinated in late Winter.
