The suborbicular to ovate leaves of Katsura Tree have crenate margins and a distinctly cordate base, and develop a lovely medium green to blue-green color that will persist into late Summer if supplemental moisture is provided during periods of drought; otherwise, this tree is an early indicator of dry soil conditions, as premature leaf coloration and abscission will occur, starting in the interior of the canopy.
