The orbicular leaves of Celastrus orbiculatus, coupled with its globular fruits being in clusters originating from the leaf axils, identify this species as Chinese Bittersweet (also known as Asiatic Bittersweet). American Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens), on the other hand, has flowers and fruits at the stem terminals, and ovate leaves with acuminate apices.
