The long, staminate flowers of Chinese Chestnut somewhat resemble the arching bottlebrush flowers of certain Fountain Grasses or Foxtails. However, they are creamy-lime to creamy-white in color, and are very malodorous. The pistillate flowers which they pollinate are also in nearby leaf axils, and already have the appearance of miniature bristly chestnuts.
