Columnar European Hornbeam is a small tree that is formal in shape, symmetrical in its branching up and down its strong central leader, dense in foliage, and works wonderfully to balance out strong horizontal lines (as shown here), or where a sentry-like specimen tree is needed in a horizontally restricted space.
