The Spring and early Summer foliage of Bolton's Aster is a definitive blue-green, and works well when placed next to either cool-colored flowering perennials or blue-foliaged ornamental grasses. Alternatively, it may be a good companion plant for Purple Osier Willow in a mixed border planting, since it strongly resembles a dwarf form of this shrub.
