Glossy Abelia, best relegated for use in zone 6a or milder climates, is often utilized as a semi-sheared hedge. This does not seriously detract from the floral display, as it flowers constantly throughout the summer on the new growth of the current season, with the sepals persisting and giving a bronzed cast to the otherwise glossy green foliage.
