Wild Ginger, a native North American groundcover often overlooked due to the glossier foliage of its cousin from Europe, will with time lay down a carpet of larger, semi-evergreen foliage in shady situations. While native to the moist, rich soils of bottomlands, it tolerates drier soils (such as found under shade trees) but will wilt every day in the heat of Summer.
