Wisteria is notorious, if given the opportunity to twine upon a narrow supportive structure (a wire in this case), of twisting upon its own self. Fortunately, instead of girdling and strangling itself, this vine usually self-grafts along the numerous points of contact, and forms solid branches and trunks at these junctures.
