The foliage and stems of Burkwood Viburnum mature to a densely pubescent state by early Summer, and may cause itching on the arms if pruned without long sleeves, and sneezing if thrown into a chipper that causes the dispersal of its "dust". Other viburnums with this same trait include Koreanspice, Judd, Cayuga, Wayfaringtree, Prague, Lantanaphyllum, and Leatherleaf.
