The floral buds of Nannyberry Viburnum (as shown here) are on a short stalk, plump at the base, and have a very long-tapering apex (acuminate apex), with two prominent outer scales. The floral buds of the closely-related Blackhaw Viburnum have a swollen base and a short, acute apex.
