The interesting red fruits of Yew occur on the female plants, and are present in Autumn and early Winter, before they abscisce or are eaten by wildlife. Although most portions of Yew species contain chemicals that are highly toxic to humans and animals, the fleshy portion of the fruit is not, while the hard seed containing the poisons is passed through the digestive system unscathed.
