The cone fruits of Bald Cypress, rarely noticed in the winter canopy, tip off the fact that this is one of four genera of trees that are termed deciduous conifers (Taxodium, Metasequoia, Larix, and Pseudolarix). (As an aside, members of the Birch Family have strobiles, which are fruits that are cone-like in appearance, but not true cones.)
