The leaves of Shumard Oak (a member of the Red Oak Group) can be easily confused with those from Pin Oak, Scarlet Oak, Northern Red Oak, and Black Oak, as its sinuses, lobes, and margins have combinations that could be mistaken for variability within any of the above species (especially the first three).
