Podophyllum peltatum
Mayapple

While most wildflowers and ferns have a medium to fine texture, Mayapple affords a bold texture for shady sites. Emerging folded downward upon the stout petiole, the thick leaf blade opens outward like an expanding umbrella. Mayapple is often present in colonies in woodland areas, appearing like large green mushrooms.
