Magnolia stellata
Star Magnolia

Early-blooming deciduous Magnolias (such as Star Magnolia) rarely go through a Spring without severe frost and freeze damage that destroys the blossoms; however, this photograph was taken in early Autumn, when a floral bud will occasionally open and provide a glimpse of the potential of this species for a spectacular floral display.
