Until about twenty years of age, Sweetgum has several assets (rapid establishment, dark green lustrous foliage, pyramidal growth habit, excellent fall color), but after this point, trees begin to bear their pesky fruits, and along with a second liability of being somewhat storm prone, become less desirable in the landscape.
