Different forms of Spiny Bear's Breeches (available as several species and varieties), differ primarily in cold hardiness and the degree of cutleaf character. Acanthus spinosus is the most cold hardy (to zone 5, needing good soil drainage in partial shade) and is intermediate in the quantity of lobes and incisions present in its huge leaves.
