Juglans nigra
Black Walnut

The immature fruits of Black Walnut occur in light green husks in Summer, then abscise in large quantities after frost in Autumn, when the fallen husks turn chartreuse then brown-black, slowly falling away to reveal the interior hard-shelled nut, unless previously harvested by squirrels or humans.
