The large, leathery, evergreen leaves of Lenten Rose superficially appear like those of a small Peony at first glance. While winterburn or even total dieback may occur during Winter in exposed areas, the foliage of Lenten Rose often survives in good shape if sited in a sheltered, shady area, and is joined in late Winter by the attractive nodding flowers of the new season.
