The pendulous white flowers of Carolina Silverbell have bell-shaped corollas that are best observed from a side view (as shown here) or from underneath, looking upwards into the canopy. A closely related species (Halesia monticola, Mountain Silverbell) has larger flowers composed of four fused petals, and reaches much greater heights. It is sometimes lumped together with Carolina Silverbell as the same species.
