The leaves of Red Maple have a lower surface that is distinctly silver, creating a bicolor effect in the breeze. Although usually trilobed, sometimes an additional two small lobes occur at the base of the leaf blade (as shown here). In addition, the degree of serrations and incisions varies from one tree to the next (here, they are relatively prominent).
