The species form of Purple Coneflower, a North American perennial, has thin and downswept ray flowers when in full blossom for a "badminton birdie" appearance, but the modern cultivars, with their thick and horizontally-held ray flowers (or "petals"), may in the heat of the afternoon have a wilted appearance (both the foliage and the ray flowers) that is perfectly natural.
