A closeup of the mature bark of Persimmon reveals that the prominently raised ridges are not flattened, but rather have a triangular shape in cross-section. The mature bark of Persimmon can be confused at first glance with some species of the Red Oak group (Quercus) or the Ashes (Fraxinus).
