Different forms of Spiny Bear's Breeches (available as several species and varieties), differ primarily in cold hardiness and the degree of cutleaf character. <i>Acanthus spinosus</i> is the most cold hardy (to zone 5, needing good soil drainage in partial shade) and is intermediate in the quantity of lobes and incisions present in its huge leaves.
